CFA piling, foundation installation, basement conversions, underpinning services and restricted access piling are core services provided by the team at Piled Solutions. What you may not know is that our groundwork contractors can also install bored piled retaining walls. We are regional and nationwide specialists with an established customer and client base in Hertfordshire.
We understand that having different piling methods available to support the domestic and commercial sectors might lead to confusion.
Our company keep open lines of communication with customers and clients. We offer geographical and topographical surveys, using our many years of combined experience to recommend CFA piling, driven cased piling, auger bored piling or restricted access piling based on the findings of our surveys and, of course, the original job specification.
Here, we discuss the merits of bored piled retaining walls.
Bored piled retaining walls transfer above-ground loads into the surrounding soil and strata so that there is a sufficient bearing capacity for structural builds. By boring to remove soil, our piling contractors create a hole for a reinforced concrete pile, which we pour onsite. We usually bore using the CFA piling technique, which is just one of several forms of auger bored piling.
Both are considered restricted access piling because we can undertake work on sites in the Hertfordshire area with limited space and headroom. This technique minimises noise pollution and the impact of vibrations.
Our groundwork contractors also specialise in traditional underpinning services and deep foundation installations for basement conversions, basement rebuilds, extensions and more.
There are three ways to construct bored piled retaining walls:
By driving piles into the ground close together, they form a retaining wall. Piling contractors use this method for basement construction, to support underpasses or to cut and cover tunnels. Contiguous piles touch each other, and the team at our groundworks company grout them to create a fully watertight wall.
By using interlocking piles, we can create secant bored piled retaining walls. This is a fast, low-cost process to provide short-term water retention. We use soft or firm concrete for the primary piles, and structural reinforced concrete for the secondary piles.
This method is very similar in design to the one we have specified above, but our piling contractors use a higher strength of concrete to form the primary piles and may also reinforce them. The hardness of the concrete used means that we don’t usually need to build a lining wall.
